Costa Rica Vacation Rentals - By Region and Location
NORTH PACIFIC COAST - Beautiful Beaches and Amazing Landscapes
The northern Pacific coast in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is dotted with dozens of sleepy little fishing villages and heavenly beaches that made this province famous worldwide. Visitors can choose from among beaches with white sand, black sand, secluded ones with small inns, or those booming with luxurious condo resorts. Most north-coast beaches are accessible via Liberia, then southwest to Comunidad, Belen and Santa Cruz on decent roads with some bad stretches. Daily flights are available from San Jose to Tamarindo on Sansa and Nature Air. You can also travel in comfortable a/c vans with Gray Line and Interbus.
NICOYA PENINSULA - Sun, Surf and Wildlife
This is beach lovers' territory. The beaches here are drown in wave-breaking silence, some of the last forgotten places where you can have a time alone with mother nature. Dedicated surfers flock here year-round for the warm water and tubular waves. From Playa Langosta and Playa Negra down to Playa Guiones and Malpais, you can go for adventure (explore limestone caves, spot wildlife in dry forests, glide on ziplines, leap off waterfalls) or find relaxation and peace of mind. There is no shortage of yoga experts here to help you along. If you miss the nightlife, head to Tamarindo or Santa Teresa. Although navigating the roads here can be a challenge, many visitors regard getting lost and asking the locals for directions as just part of the fun.
CENTRAL PACIFIC COAST - It's All Happening Here
The central Pacific coast is Costa Rica in a nutshell: monkeys swinging from branches, white and black sand beaches doting the coast line, nightlife for the young and restless, and small communities of welcoming Ticos, all within a couple of hours from the capital, San Jose. This region is Costa Rica's original tourism destination not least because of its easy accessibility. Booming tourism has led to a profusion of fine lodging and dining options within the popular Jaco Beach-to-Manuel Antonio stretch. But those willing to get off the beaten path for a bit will still find Costa Rica the way it used to be.
SOUTH PACIFIC COAST - Down the Coastal Road to Paradise
Visitors who make their way to the southern Pacific coast will be rewarded with gorgeous vistas, empty shorelines and quiet jungle retreats. From trekking in emerald rainforests to shell-picking on deserted beaches, the south coast offers unmatched natural beauty and enchantment. The lovely long beaches in the Costa Ballena Marine National Park, the surfing mecca at Dominical, the small 'French' town of Ojochal, don't get heavy tourist traffic thanks to their distance from the Central Valley. On most days, you can walk on any of the south coast beaches for hours without seeing another soul.
